February 20, 2012

Curator of Bucharest Biennale 5 (BB5), Anne Barlow, has announced the participating artists, venues and new details about the concept of the fifth Bucharest International Biennial for Contemporary Art.

The projects will take place in non-profit spaces and public venues and sites throughout the city including PAVILION center for contemporary art and culture, Casa Presei Libere (The House of the Free Press), The Institute for Political Research, artist run space Alert Studio, and a former textile factory Make a Point. The concept of the biennale, “Tactics for the Here and Now” aims to profile the work of artists whose “agency lies less in overt statements, but rather in investigative or indirect strategies that possess their own kind of power” and considers the shifting nature of our current context of politics, economics, and culture. Participating artists include: Abbas Akhavan (IR/CA), Marina Albu (RO), Haris Epaminonda (CY/DE) Klas Eriksson (SW), Ruth Ewan (UK), Aurelien Froment (IE/FR), Ciprian Homorodean (RO/B), Iman Issa (EG/USA), Janice Kerbel (CA/UK), Jill Magid (USA), David Maljkovic (HR), Marina Naprushkina (BY/DE), Ahmet Öğüt (TR/NL), Vesna Pavlović (Serbia), Anahita Razmi (DE), Wael Shawky (EG/FR), Alexandre Singh (FR/USA), Mounira Al Solh & Bassam Ramlawi (LB), Rinus van der Velde (B).
