Just as Daniel Hug fills the gap left by Gérard Goodrow as Director of Art Cologne, the latter has just been hired by auction house Phillips de Pury & Co (Bloomberg). Goodrow will take up the role of Business Development Director, based in a new office and showroom in Cologne.
Goodrow left Art Cologne, the oldest of the contemporary art fairs, on troubled ground – in the end he was undone by pressure from participating galleries and was unable to compete with the momentum of younger fairs in London, Miami and Basel.
The 43-year-old is an American who acquired German citizenship. Before Art Cologne, where he worked for almost five years, he was a director of contemporary art at Christies International in London.
