While “The Ungovernables”, the latest edition of the New Museum Triennial (curated by Eungie Joo) is closing, the names of the curators of the 2015 edition have been released: the curator Lauren Cornell and video artist Ryan Trecartin.
Cornell currently covers the dual role of director of Rhizome.org and adjunct curator at the NewMuseum. She is interested in the relationship between art and new media: in fact, every year she promotes “Seven on Seven,” a series of conferences in which pairs of artists and technological innovators are invited to develop a new product. If we add to Cornell’s interests the historic and experimental character of Trecartin, we can assume that the next New Museum Triennial will favour the language of new media. “I can think of no better team to organize the next Triennial — an exhibition that is now awaited with great anticipation and high expectations,” Lisa Phillips, director of the NewMuseum, said. “Cornell and Trecartin came into their own in this millennium and are deeply in touch with how the world is changing and how artists of their generation are responding”.
