4th India Art Fair Kicks off today / New Dehli

Previously known as the India Art Summit, the fourth edition of the India Art Fair will be held on 25-29 January, 2012 at NSIC Exhibition Grounds in New Delhi. Ninety-one exhibitors from 20 countries are showing work by more than 1,000 artists, and tens of thousands of visitors are expected.

For the first time the fair will feature several leading international galleries including White Cube, UK, Galleria Continua, Italy, Hauser & Wirth, Britain and Switzerland. Other new exhibitors include Arndt, Everard Read, Frida Fine Arts, Kalfayan Galleries. The quality of art at the fair this time will be internationally many notches up, because I have new international partners,” Neha Kirpal, founder and director, India Art Fair said. Indian galleries represented include, Delhi Art Gallery, Vadehra Art Gallery from Delhi, Project 88, Chemould Prescott Road from Mumbai, Experimenter, Center of International Modern Art from Kolkata. “There is a serious interest in more cutting-edge Indian contemporary art for the first time,” said a dealer based in Mumbai. “The big museums are all sending teams. They are actively thinking that they need some Indian element in their collections and that is very new.”Last year the fair registered 128,000 visitors. The organizers are hopeful that the fair will attract an even larger crowd this year.
