The Turner Prize 2011 Exhibition opens today, October 21, at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, UK. The exhibition will include work by the four artists shortlisted for the Turner Prize: Karla Black, Martin Boyce, Hilary Lloyd and George Shaw.
For the first time this year, the exhibition of the shortlisted artists will take place outside of a Tate venue.
Established in 1984, the Turner Prize is one of the most prestigious international art awards. It is awarded to a British artist less than 50 years of age for an outstanding exhibition or presentation of his or her work in the 12 months preceding April 4, 2011.
The Turner Prize winner will be announced during a live broadcast of the award ceremony on December 5, 2011 on BBC Channel 4. The winner will receive £25,000 and the three other shortlisted artists will each receive £5,000.
