Shaun Gladwell has been chosen to represent Australia at the 53rd Venice Biennale, reports The Australian.
Gladwell, honored by the offer of this great opportunity, said, “Although there’s a one-year lead time, I’m certainly putting forward some very ambitious projects.”
His work, which will be shown in the Australian Pavilion in the Giardini venue, is still in the development stage and is titled MADDESTMAXIMVS. Influenced by the Australian rural landscape and Mad Max movies, the work is composed of five thematically related videos, with sculptural and photographic elements too.
Born in Sydney in 1972, Shaun Gladwell has already gained an outstanding international reputation for his powerful video work, especially for his skateboarding piece that was shown at Venice in 2007. He is also participating in the forthcoming Taipei Biennial.
