The first Privatus Prize at Independent 2013 has been announced by the fair’s cofounders Elizabeth Dee and Darren Flook.
The prize of $10,000 is for outstanding curatorial work presenting by a gallery or institution exhibited at Independent. The judges will be Stefan Kalmár, the current director of Artists Space, New York and independent curator Clarissa Dalrymple. All exhibiting galleries are eligible and the prize will be announced on Thursday March 7 during the opening day of Independent.
The upcoming fourth edition of Independent will run from March 7-10, 2013 and returns to its former location at 548 West 22nd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues in Chelsea’s gallery district. This year’s edition will feature over 40 international galleries and non-profit institutions representing fourteen countries, and will be dedicated to the non-profit institutions in New York that were hit hardest by Hurricane Sandy. Chelsea-based organizations The Kitchen
and Printed Matter will participate for the first time at Independent presenting their programs. Privatus is an independent advisory and private sales company that works across a number of collectible classes.
