The visual arts commissions for this year’s Manchester International Festival include, ‘do it 20 13’. Many of the world’s leading artists are taking part in do it.
Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, and commissioned by MIF with Manchester Art Gallery, do it 20 13 will open at Manchester Art Gallery on 5 July 2013. The festival will present a special preview of excerpts from “River of Fundament”, a major new seven-part film project by Matthew Barney and composer Jonathan Bepler. There will be a number of works presented at the previiously abandoned Mayfield Depot, including works by Romeo Castellucci, Tino Sehgal, Dan Graham, Mette Ingvartsen, Eszter Salamon, and Mårten Spångberg. Beginning at sunrise on July 5 and ending at sunset on July 7, Whitworth Art Gallery will remain open day and night for 65 hours as performance artist Nikhil Chopra presents “Coal on Cotton”, an exploration of Manchester’s industrial and historical bonds with India, as part of Manchester International Festival.
Manchester International Festival is the world’s first festival of original, new work and special events and takes place biennially, in Manchester, UK. It was founded in 2007.
