June 4, 2008

The two young artists Sarah Browne and Gareth Kennedy will represent Ireland at the 2009 Venice Biennale, as reported by the Irish Times.

Both graduated from Fine Art, Sculpture at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin (NCAD) in 2003. The pair, who have realized diverse collaborative projects in the past years, were selected by the Irish commissioner, Caoimhín Corrigan.

Browne is currently based in rural northwest Ireland and her practice addresses ecologies of place and displacement through the circulation of people, products and social behaviors.

Kennedy’s work is similarly interdisciplinary and socially engaged, often involving design, architecture, social and public space. Corrigan is currently Arts Officer of Leitrim County Council, as well as Curator of The Dock in Carrick on Shannon.
