July 15, 2013

Martin Clark, currently Artistic Director of the Tate St Ives in Cornwall, has been announced the new Director of Bergen Kunsthall. Clark will be taking over from Solveig Øvstebø, who began his new position as executive director of Chicago’s The Renaissance Society in June after more than ten years at Bergen Kunsthall.

“Bergen Kunsthall is an institution that has been in constant growth and development over the past ten years. With Martin Clark we have found a director who will further develop and strengthen the institution,” says Board Chairman at Bergen Kunsthall Martin Smith-Sivertsen. “We are very proud to announce the appointment of Martin Clark as our new director after an extensive application process. He is a strong and ambitious professional leader who will give Bergen Kunsthall a clear artistic direction.”

Martin Clark has been Artistic Director at Tate St Ives since 2007 during which time he has championed an ambitious, internationally recognised exhibition programme. He was previously Exhibitions Curator at Arnolfini, Bristol (2004-7) and Curator, Kent Institute of Art and Design (2001-4).

Bergen Kunsthall is one of Scandinavia’s most highly profiled institutions for contemporary art, founded in 1838.
