John Peter Nilsson will direct Moderna Museet Malmö Malmö

John Peter Nilsson has been appointed director of Moderna Museet Malmö for a three-year term.

He will assume his post on March 1, 2012. Nilsson currently works as a curator at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, where he has organized well-received exhibitions such as “Dalí Dalí featuring Francesco Vezzoli” and “Klara Lidén.” He has worked as an art critic and was editor-in-chief of several art magazines, including NU: The Nordic Art Review.

Daniel Birnbaum, director of Moderna Museet, stated in a press release: “John Peter Nilsson is one of Sweden’s most experienced and respected figures on the art scene. With his international focus and specialist knowledge about this region, he is the person we believe can build Moderna Museet’s presence in Skåne and across the Öresund strait.”

Nilsson said of his new appointment: “Moderna Museet Malmö is located in the centre of a region of astonishing development and change. I look forward to working with the staff and external partners to further increase our drive and momentum.”

Along with becoming director of Moderna Museet Malmö Nilsson will also curate SUPERSURREALISM, the Moderna Museet’s major exhibition for 2012.
