Raf Simons, new artistic director of Christian Dior / Paris

It’s been a year since the departure of John Galliano from Christian Dior for his anti-Semitic remarks.

Raf Simons, the 44 year old Belgian designer and former director of Jil Sander has now been appointed the brands new the new artistic director. The assignment represents the culmination of a brilliant career that began in 1995 as a menswear designer. Simons will be in charge of haute couture, women’s ready-to-wear and accessories. The official debut is scheduled for Paris fashion week in July. Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive officer of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, is pleased with the choice because Raf Simons incredible talent will hopefully renew the the style of the Maison Dior, propelling it into the 21st century. As Simons said to the New York Times: “I feel fantastic. It is one of the ultimate challenges, and a dream to go to a place like Dior, which stands for absolute elegance, incredible femininity, and utter luxury.”
